Chelsea have now told Liverpool that Christian Pulisic will only move from Stamford Bridge to Anfield if they recoup what they paid Borussia Dortmund, with Jurgen Klopp interested in a summer transfer.

That’s according to the Daily Star, who report Klopp is personally keen on the Reds signing the Blues’ dynamo this year. The German is eager to strengthen his attacking options over the off-season amid indefatigable doubts regarding Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane’s long-term futures on Merseyside.

Both Salah and Mane will enter the final year of their contracts on July 1, so Klopp would like to see the Reds sign a rapid wide option. Pulisic could fit the bill for the German’s high octane tactics, as the American proved unable to hold down a regular role under Thomas Tuchel in west London this term.

Tuchel only started Pulisic in 13 Premier League games and four Champions League ties across his 29 appearances between the competitions. Yet the 23-year-old still managed to score a combined eight goals and create a further three. He also made an assist in four FA Cup and one in three EFL Cup ties.

Chelsea’s style under Tuchel also impacted Pulisic’s output as the USMNT winger occasionally had to play as a wing-back. So, with his £150k-a-week contract about to enter the final two years, the Blues may consider cashing in. But the Stamford Bridge hierarchy will want to recoup the £58m they paid.

Chelsea now tell Liverpool to pay £58m as Jurgen Klopp targets Christian Pulisic

Pulisic left Borussia Dortmund for west London in 2019, and the Daily Star note he rejected Liverpool at the time over a lack of assurances on his game time. Klopp may still be reluctant to guarantee him a constant presence. But with Mane and Salah’s futures in doubt, the American could fight for one.

Klopp is also leading Liverpool’s interest in signing Pulisic from Chelsea this summer, too. Yet the fee in question will put the German’s admiration to the test, as the Daily Mail report Reds chiefs are not willing to break the bank to sign the USMNT captain whom Frank Lampard once lauded considerably.

“He has great talent, we know that,” Lampard said, via quotes by Eurosport, while Chelsea manager in 2020. “He came here at the start of the season in difficult conditions in terms of hadn’t really had a break. But he started to play really well for us, and now he has moved his game on another level.

“Not just how he is going by people but real end product. The top attacking players in the world score goals regularly that win games and at the moment he is doing that so I am delighted for him.”
