Valencia have set an asking price of just £34m for reported Liverpool transfer target Carlos Soler.
That’s as per Mundo Deporitvo. They claim that incoming Valencia boss Gennaro Gattuso has ‘given the green light’ to a sale.
Soler has only a year to run on his current deal. As a result, the Spanish club are reportedly looking for just £34m to allow him to leave.
Liverpool aren’t specifically mentioned this time. Instead, Atletico Madrid are claimed to be leading the race to sign the Spain international.
Soler would reportedly prefer to stay in La Liga. However, Juventus are another club who are said to be ‘very aware’ of the situation.
Liverpool are you watching
Liverpool should be all over this. Soler is an excellent player who, at twenty-five, is in the age bracket The Reds like to buy in.
He has international experience for one of the top nations and can also play wide on the right.
The chance to sign a player of his stock for a relatively small fee doesn’t come around too often. He also happens to play in a position that Liverpool could do with reinforcements in.
His reported preference to stay in Spain may be a stumbling block. But Liverpool have plenty of Spanish speakers who have helped to settle Luis Diaz in as he gets to grips with life on Merseyside.
Returning for a prior target
According to Golsmedia back in March, Liverpool actually made contact with Soler last year.
It’s unclear why the contact didn’t go any further at that time, but it was reported in March that Liverpool were ready to come again.
If they have been keeping tabs on the player, it would be a shame if they weren’t to act when he is seemingly available.
Liverpool have now tied down James Milner to a new deal and Naby Keita looks to be on the way. But with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain likely to depart and other members of the midfield ageing, they need some fresh blood.
At the kind of price quoted, Soler would tick a lot of the boxes Liverpool would look for in such a signing.
