Liverpool have a low chance at signing Serge Gnabry this year due to what Jurgen Klopp has planned for those already at Anfield, despite the Reds’ interest in raiding Bayern Munich to land the forward.
That’s according to Sky Germany, who report it is likely that Gnabry leaves the Allianz Arena over the summer. The winger starts the last year of his contract on July 1, and Der FCB are currently not close to finding an agreement with the 26-year-old to extend his stay in Bavaria past the summer of 2023.
It is considered a matter of fact that Bayern will strive to sell Gnabry this summer if he does not sign fresh terms. However, despite the 31-cap dynamo having admirers throughout Europe, no outfit has yet approached the Bundesliga giants to submit a concrete bid in an attempt to seal a deal this year.
Gnabry has four realistic destinations on the horizon in the event of leaving the Allianz Arena during the off-season. Sky Germany cite Juventus, Real Madrid, AC Milan and Manchester United as having a strong chance if they step up their interest. The Red Devils are also noted as ‘definitely an option’.
Manchester United are expected to target offensive upgrades after missing out on qualification for the Champions League. Gnabry also fits the favoured system Erik ten Hag is likely to try to establish at Old Trafford. But Real Madrid have already expressed their interest in a transfer for the forward.
Liverpool have low chance at signing Bayern Munich’s Gnabry but Man Utd ‘definitely’ an option
Sky Germany give four further Premier League clubs, including Liverpool, a low chance at poaching Gnabry from Bayern Munich. The Reds like the German for what he could bring to Anfield, especially if Sadio Mane leaves. But Klopp plans to incorporate the club’s rising stars as he refreshes his squad.
Manchester City are also unlikely to target Gnabry as the Citizens only deem a free transfer possible. Chelsea, too, admire the four-time Bundesliga winner, but the Blues have not yet contacted Gnabry or Bayern Munich. While Arsenal failing to qualify for the Champions League should rule them out.
Klopp could yet seek to sign Gnabry as a ready-made replacement for Mane, though, with Liverpool interested in the Bayern Munich star. Despite the German’s plans to promote from within, the Reds still have a stronger chance at a deal than Tottenham Hotspur as Antonio Conte’s tactics do not fit.
Gnabry would certainly offer Liverpool an instant successor to Mane with Rio Ferdinand lauding him. “His stats are phenomenal,” the Manchester United icon once said, via the Daily Mail. “He’s sitting in the top level, world-class… His decision making has been extraordinary.”
However, Sport1 note Gnabry currently plans on playing into the final year of his contract at Bayern Munich. He sees no rush in committing his future given the cash potentially on offer as a free agent in 2023. So much so Bild add he has snubbed Der FCB’s offer of a €19m-a-year (£313k-a/w) contract.
