Liverpool have made their move to sign Ousmane Dembélé on a free transfer, according to reports. The Reds put a proposal to the winger.
This comes from Sport. They claim that Liverpool have ‘finally’ put a proposal to Ousmane Dembélé. The Frenchman is out of contract in the summer and teams can sign him for nothing – if he accepts their deal.
Such a deal would have to be a good one, then. Barcelona hope to renew his contract and have their own deal in place, while rumours circulate that Paris Saint-Germain want the player. Chelsea, too, are ‘determined’ to sign Dembélé for next season.
And so that’s a lot of money potentially heading Dembélé’s way. Liverpool would have to make a fantastic offer to usurp the rest of the teams – but they might have an opportunity to.
Liverpool want Ousmane Dembélé on a free transfer
The reality is that Liverpool might lose Sadio Mané this summer. His contract expires in 2023 and talk about Bayern Munich being confident of signing him continues.
Replacing the Reds’ no.10 is a potential nightmare but Dembélé might be a risk worth taking if Liverpool have no choice. And they really might, should Mané decide he’s determined to leave.
We’ve written before that the 25-year-old could be an ideal project for Liverpool. His potential remains outstanding in the right environment and the Reds have a knack for creating that environment for players.
On top of that, it’s long been reported that Jurgen Klopp is a big, big fan. Sport said as much back in 2020 and they’re not the only ones. Bringing Dembélé in on a free could well be exactly what Liverpool want this summer.
The reality is, though, that we hope it doesn’t happen. It only makes sense if Mané departs and we’d much rather he didn’t. But should the worst occur, Liverpool should strongly consider Dembélé.
