'He wants you hurt you': Rio Ferdinand picks the one of Liverpool's five forwards he'd least like to face

Rio Ferdinand had high praise for one Liverpool attacker on Saturday as he picked the man he’d least like to face. And there’s some talent to pick from at Anfield.

Liverpool have five incredible forwards in their squad right now – a situation they’ve never been in before. In fact, few teams ever can boast the kind of firepower at Anfield at the moment.

Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mané and Roberto Firmino have long been the superstars at Liverpool. They’ve driven the success in recent years, playing to incredible levels. Diogo Jota arrived in 2020 and hit he ground running, though, adding another dimension to Liverpool’s team.

And January brought Luis Diaz – who slotted into the squad better than anyone has for a long time.

So that’s five elite forwards at Liverpool, each capable of winning any game of football. But who’s the most dangerous? Rio Ferdinand gave his take for BT Sport ahead of the Champions League final on Saturday.

“If I was picking one of the three, four, five strikers that they have – including [Roberto] Firmino – [Mané] would be the one I dislike playing against the most,” he told BT Sport.

“Because he can do every part of the game. He can go long, come short, he can use a bit of skill.

UEFA MUST STOP! NEW CHAMPIONS LEAGUE COULD RUIN FOOTBALL

“He’s so direct when he gets the ball, he wants to hurt you and punish you. He’s a fantastic footballer who’s grown.”

Liverpool’s best attacker

Right now, we’d pick Mané, too. What he’s done over the second half of the season has been sensational and we believe he’s playing the best football of his career.

He’s doing it as a False, on top of that. Mané’s ability to offer everything in that role just pushes Liverpool to another level right now. He’ll drop deep and link with midfield, drift around to create space for others, but also offer than incredible threat in behind with his pace.

Mané must be an absolute nightmare to face as a centre-back – let’s just hope he’s still doing it in a Liverpool shirt next season.
