Report: Liverpool to make move to sign 'extraordinary' player after the CL final, they're refusing to give up

Liverpool haven’t given up on the prospect of signing Monaco midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni this summer.

That’s according to Foot Mercato, who claim that Liverpool are still in the picture to bring the Frenchman to Anfield.

There had been reports yesterday that Tchouameni had already agreed a deal with Real Madrid. Whilst confirming that this is the case, Foot Mercato also claim that there is still yet to be an agreement between Madrid and Monaco.

Because of this Liverpool are still in with a shot. The Reds will reportedly ‘accelerate’ their plans after the Champions League final this weekend.

PSG are also reportedly in the frame for Tchouameni. The French Champions are said to be ready to offer more than £68m for the 22-year-old.

Liverpool in unchartered territory

It isn’t like Liverpool to get involved in a bidding war for a player. The Reds tend to have a very clear picture on who they want and what they’re willing to pay to get them.

For them to take on two clubs with greater resources than themselves, they must really want Tchouameni. That in itself is a glowing appraisal of the midfielder’s abilities.

Despite this, £70m or so is a massive price to pay. Liverpool have an impressive track record of unearthing players in the price-bracket below this. Perhaps it may be worth leaving PSG and Madrid to slug this one out.

Ibrahim Sangare has been suggested as a potential alternative, and looks more of a ‘Liverpool signing.’ Additionally players like Matheus Nunes and Davide Frattesi might be worth exploring.

It seems that Tchouameni has already decided Real Madrid is his preferred destination, too. The Reds are currently too good to be deemed a second-choice option for any player.

The France international does indeed look like a ready-made superstar. But Liverpool don’t buy superstars, they make them. If Jurgen Klopp and co do end up losing this race, expect them to have a solution that can be even better.
