'He's too quick': Arsenal's £8m defender claims one Liverpool player is just so difficult to tackle

Arsenal’s Nuno Tavares has spoken about the difficulty of playing against Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah in the Premier League.

Speaking on the Counter Attack Podcast, the Arsenal defender has described what it’s like to play against Salah.

“The way he touches the ball. He touches it like the ball is so close to his foot, he controls the ball very well and you try and take the ball and he’s gone the other way,” said Tavares.

“He’s too quick! He can run on your back, it’s difficult because he’s moving all the time.”

Salah always a threat

Tavares, who signed for Arsenal for £8m last summer, clearly had a difficult time against Mo this season.

That’s interesting, because in the two games Liverpool played against Arsenal, Salah scored just once.

During the second half of the season, Salah’s goal have dried up quite drastically. But listening to Taveres, it’s obvious that even when he isn’t scoring, the 29-year-old is still such a threat.

There aren’t many players in the world who can occupy defences like Mo can. He is constantly marked by three or four opposition defenders but can still manage to allude them all.

It was great to see him scoring again on Sunday, as we head into the biggest game of the season. For him to get the title-clinching goal would have been a fitting way to end the campaign.

That wasn’t to be in the end. Salah still has a chance to make sure the season belongs to him though, if he can put in a top performance in the Champions League final, the lean streaks will be forgotten.

The Eqyptian seems heavily motivated by a sense of revenge against Real Madrid. Let’s hope he channels that feeling into showing exactly why defenders like Tavares have been running scared of him since 2017.
