Calvin Ramsay is to receive a tempting offer from Italy, according to reports. Liverpool want to sign the Scottish full-back.
This comes from the Scotsman. They believe that Bologna are ready to make an offer for Calvin Ramsay, much as they did in January.
The Italian side tried to sign Ramsay from Aberdeen earlier this year but saw a £4.8m offer fail. They’ll now try again in a move that could hurt Liverpool.
As the article says, the Reds also want to sign Ramsay this summer. He’s their preferred option as cover for Trent Alexander-Arnold but Bologna, and Leeds United, hope to convince the 18-year-old to reject Anfield.
Ramsay is receiving a lot of attention from clubs after a brilliant season with Aberdeen. He won the Scottish Football Writers’ Young Player of the Year award in recognition of his performances.
Bologna set to make Calvin Ramsay offer
Now, it’s easy to look at this and wonder why Bologna would have any chance of beating Liverpool to a player. They genuinely have a chance, though.
That’s largely because of Aaron Hickey. They signed the left wing-back from Hearts in 2020 and he’s gone on to become a fantastic player. He’s now linked with Arsenal as a £20m+ player.
“The likes of Aaron Hickey came in at Hearts,” Ramsay said in April. “He did well and got a big move to Serie A and he’s been brilliant, scoring goals and everything.”
Ramsay, then, knows he can grow at Bologna just as Hickey has – they don’t need to be his final destination. On top of that, the Italians will comfortably have the money to sign him if Hickey does move on for a substantial amount.
And Liverpool, while a much bigger club, can’t actually offer Ramsay first-team football. In fact, the role they’re offering him is one with limited growth – he’s almost certainly never becoming their first-choice right-back as Trent Alexander-Arnold is still only 23.
Bologna will give Ramsay a lot to think about, then. And that’s not good news for Liverpool.
