Report: £100k-a-week Liverpool starter now seriously considering leaving the club this summer

Sadio Mane is giving serious thought to the possibility of joining Bayern Munich from Liverpool this summer.

That’s according to Sky Germany, who claim that the Liverpool star is considering leaving the club for the Bundesliga Champions.

Bayern are reportedly a ‘serious option’ for Mane, should he decide to leave Anfield. Discussions between the 30-year-old’s management and the player himself are claimed to have taken place in ‘the last few days.’

PSG were also reportedly exploring the option of bringing Mane to France. However, Kylian Mbappe’s contract extension is now said to have made that financially difficult for the club.

Sky report that the fee for Mane would be ‘not so expensive.’ It’s claimed that Liverpool would ask for under £42m to allow their number 10 to leave.

Mane proves his worth to Liverpool

All of this could of course be merely a negotiation tactic by Mane and his agents to force Liverpool’s hand on a new contract.

UEFA MUST STOP! NEW CHAMPIONS LEAGUE COULD RUIN FOOTBALL

From a Liverpool point of view, it should be working. Mane has been sensational in the second half of the season. Without his goals, there’s no way that The Reds would have been able to take the Premier League title race to the final day.

He has also scored key goals en-route to the Champions League final. A big performance in Paris on Saturday and Liverpool would surely have to accelerate talks to tie Mane down beyond 2023.

Putting Salah in the shade

That is of course if he wants to stay. Despite his excellence, Mane has often been put in the shade by Mohamed Salah at Liverpool. Evidence of this being in the fact that Sadio is still reportedly on £100-a-week (Spotrac) while Salah takes home double that (Spotrac).

The tables have now turned somewhat with Mane outshining Salah on the international stage and at club level in 2022. Maybe the Senegal legend now sees his opportunity to finally earn his due.

He certainly won’t be short of options if he does want to try something new. Yes, he had a poor spell over the last couple of years, but he’s back to his best now. Sadio Mane at his best is not a player you want to be losing.

In the case of players like Mane, sometimes you don’t know what you’ve got until it’s gone. Let’s hope Liverpool don’t have to find out that hard truth with Mane banging in the goals elsewhere next season.
