Fabio Carvalho has been speaking with Harvey Elliott in the run-up to his transfer from Fulham to Liverpool.
Today, Carvalho has been officially announced as a new Liverpool player. The 19-year-old will join his new club from July 1st.
In the meantime, he sat down with fulhamfc.com to give his thoughts on leaving the London club. Asked whether he has been in contact with fellow Fulham old-boy Elliott, Carvalho said that he had.
“A bit, because obviously he’s got his own season to think about and I’ve got my own,” the youngster said. “I didn’t want to go off track, I wanted to be fully focussed on Fulham and making sure that we got promoted.
“So we kind of spoke a bit, not into depth he just asked me how I was, I asked him how he was and a bit of back and forth about how our seasons have gone and just to keep going. But yeah, I haven’t really spoken to him that much.”
Welcome to Liverpool, Fabio Carvalho
Today’s confirmation had been a long time coming. Liverpool’s pursuit of Carvalho has reportedly long-since been concluded.
It’s a great bit of business for The Reds. The Portugal U21 international is obviously a player they’ve been very keen to secure for a little while.
After 10 goals and eight assists in the Championship, his reputation has been massively enhanced this season. This may have thrown the deal into some kind of doubt, but the player hasn’t wavered in his desire to join Liverpool.
The Fulham – Liverpool connection
It’s an interesting quirk that Liverpool will have two former Fulham youngsters in their side next season.
Elliott’s game-time has dropped off since he returned from a serious ankle injury in January. However, he showed another glimpse of his considerable talent with an excellent display last week against Southampton.
If he can continue to impress Jurgen Klopp in pre-season, there’s no reason why he won’t be a regular next campaign.
It remains to be seen how Klopp is planning to use Carvalho. One thing is certain though, Liverpool now have two of the most exciting players in the country linking up together.
We should all keep an eye on the Fulham academy for the next superstar in the making coming through there!
In the meantime, welcome, Fabio, we can’t wait to see you in action.
