'That's why': Kevin de Bruyne now makes claim about Liverpool straight after Man City clinch the PL title

Kevin De Bruyne has claimed that Liverpool’s excellence has pushed Manchester City harder than ever in the Premier League.

City won a second consecutive title yesterday as they pipped Liverpool by a single point. Quoted by mancity.com after the game, De Bruyne spoke about Liverpool following the victory.

“It’s hard because Liverpool push you that far that you have to be excellent all the time,” he said. “Losing points means the end. That’s why it is that hard. That makes us proud. We managed to find a way.”

Classy comments from a player who has so often been the difference for his team this season.

Liverpool lose out again

In the end the title was never really on for Liverpool. But having closed a 14-point gap with a couple of games in hand around the turn of the year, they chased City down all the way.

Thoughts will turn to dropped points earlier in the season at home to Brighton & Hove Albion and away to Brentford. What might have been had Liverpool managed to see those games out for three points.

UEFA MUST STOP! NEW CHAMPIONS LEAGUE COULD RUIN FOOTBALL

That’s the nature of football though. City had games themselves where they dropped unnecessary points, a perfect season just isn’t possible.

Credit goes to both teams for pushing each other as far to the limit as possible. Since the beginning of the 2018/19 season where the two clubs went head to head for the title, Liverpool and City have collected 357 and 358 points respectively.

Those four seasons have led to three titles for City and just one for Liverpool. That may make some neutrals chuckle, but the fact is that these titles have been decided on such fine margins. Liverpool have been unfortunate that on almost every occasion, the luck has just gone against them.

The Reds will be back next season though. With one or two additions, expect these two to lock horns yet again.
