Liverpool have been scouting Ibrahim Sangaré over the last few weeks, according to reports. The 24-year-old is available to buy.
This comes from Voetbal International in the Netherlands. They claim that Liverpool have had scouts watching Ibrahim Sangaré over the last few weeks. Sangaré has been a star for PSV Eindhoven this season but there’s a sense that he’ll leave this summer.
That’s primarily because of a clause that can see the Ivorian leave for £31m. Several clubs have him in their sights – Leicester City, Newcastle United and Aston Villa are all named – but Liverpool are the biggest.
The Reds simply must decide if £31m is worth it for the 24-year-old. If they decide he is, then we could be looking at Liverpool’s next midfielder.
Liverpool are scouting Ibrahim Sangaré
There are a few things to consider on this one. First and foremost, though, is that Liverpool do need a midfielder like Sangaré. Fabinho is the only out-and-out defensive midfielder in the first-team squad and there’s certainly room for another.
In fact, with the likes of Curtis Jones, Harvey Elliott and the incoming Fabio Carvalho all attack-minded youngsters, the next midfield signing should be a defensive one. With that in mind, Sangaré fits the bill nicely.
However, he’s not the ultimate defensive midfield signing and we wonder if he’s merely the backup choice right now. Liverpool continue to be linked with Aurélien Tchouaméni from AS Monaco, who is pretty undisputedly the best young player in the role right now.
So we won’t go all-in on Sangaré just yet – he’s not the only option here and likely not the best one. There’s also the suggestion that Liverpool weren’t just scouting the midfielder. There have been links with Cody Gakpo, too, and the Reds may have had eyes on him.
We’d suggest not getting too carried away on this one but it does sound good to us. Liverpool signing Sangaré would be a good move this summer – we’re just not 100% sure he’s their ultimate goal.
