Liverpool have reached an agreement with Porto which gives them first refusal on midfielder Fabio Vieira.
That’s according to The Sunday Mirror (15/05 page 77) who claim that Vieira is a Liverpool transfer target this summer.
The Reds have reportedly struck a deal with Porto to allow them the first option to match the midfielders release clause. Vieira’s release clause is said to be as low as £12.7m.
Arsenal are mentioned as being another interested party. But it’s Liverpool who are in the box-seat should they wish to pursue a move for the 21-year-old this summer.
Liverpool tracking Vieira
Vieira has had an excellent season with Porto. Despite only starting 15 games on the way to the Dragons winning the Portuguese Primeira Liga, he contributed a staggering 14 assists.
Adding six goals along the way too, it’s easy to see why Premier League ears have been pricked.
Liverpool’s interest in the Portugal U21 star isn’t a result of his breakout campaign though. According to CM, The Reds were looking to add Vieira to their ranks last summer.
That came following the youngsters fantastic displays in the U21 European Championships. Vieira was voted player of the tournament as Portugal finished runners-up.
Only last month, Vieira’s cousin even spoke publicly about Liverpool’s interest in the player.
Vieira himself has also publicly praised The Reds after facing them in the Champions League this season.
Liverpool have a good relationship with Porto following their flexibility during the deal to sign Luis Diaz. With talent like Vieira coming through the ranks, that’s a relationship that could bring big rewards.
If Liverpool could sign a player of the youngsters quality for less than £13m, it could be one of the signings of the summer.
