Alan Shearer was left saying ‘wow’ after an incredible pass from Trent Alexander-Arnold against Chelsea today. The Liverpool man should have created a goal.
Liverpool started like lightning against Chelsea in the FA Cup final. They passed the ball beautifully, moving it quickly into dangerous areas and consistently finding runs in behind.
But as good as all the passing was, one stood out. Well, two. Liverpool found the ball back to Alisson, who got them moving again with a fantastic outside-of-the-foot pass into midfield.
Trent Alexander-Arnold read the play wonderfully, drifting centrally to receive a pass from Thiago. With absolutely no hesitation, the Scouser sent a glorious ball through to Luis Diaz, putting the Colombian in on goal. The vision and technique was exquisite.

That’s the kind of magic that Alexander-Arnold can produce – a world-class skill that blends perfectly with Liverpool’s eagerness to find space in behind. We want to mention how intelligent the movement was again, too. The right-back drifts inside because he knows exactly what can happen if he finds space inside and has the technique to make the pass happen.
Of course, Liverpool were very unfortunate in the end. Luis Diaz probably should have done better with the pass but that was the story of the Reds’ opening 15 minutes. They created openings again and again but things just didn’t quite fall for them.
They overwhelmed Chelsea with their passing – Alexander-Arnold being critical to that. A sensational player who deservedly earns praise from all quarters these days and this was one of his finest.
