Micah Richards believes Alisson Becker is ‘one of the best’ he’s ever seen after Liverpool’s win in the FA Cup final. The Brazilian made the difference.
Liverpool have a second trophy in the bag after beating Chelsea on penalties in the FA Cup final. It was a remarkably similar game to the EFL Cup final – two great teams somehow couldn’t find the net.
This one, like that one, went to a shout-out where Kostas Tsimikas put his name in lights with the winning kick. But he wasn’t the only hero. Alisson Becker saved from Mason Mount to set it up.
Alisson had a fantastic game from front to back, in fact. He kept claiming crosses, made some big saves one on one and showed magnificent distribution.
Micah Richards wanted to point that out after the game. Alisson, he says, is one of the absolute best he’s ever seen between the sticks.
“He’s immense,” Richards told BBC Sport. “The saves that he makes on a consistent basis now, he’s one of the best I’ve seen out there.
“He just makes the right decisions at the right times. Whether it’s coming out for a save, coming out and collecting a cross, whether it’s his distribution.”
Alisson – the best around
What an incredible player. Alisson has been outstanding this season and this cup final furthers his legend at the club. He played enormous roles in winning the Champions League, Premier League and FA Cup, after all. That comfortably cements him as one of the greatest Liverpool goalkeepers ever.
The best since Ray Clemence? You’d have to say he firmly is now. Alisson is only 29, too, and there’s a sense he’s got more to do. He could very well go down as one of the outright greatest goalkeepers ever.
How lucky Liverpool are to have him.
