Sadio Mané is Bayern Munich’s top target and talks have taken place. That’s according to one journalist out of Germany.
This comes from Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg. The journalist wrote yesterday that Bayern Munich had their sights on Sadio Mané and moved to confirm the report on Friday.
“As reported and now finally confirmed: [Hasan] Salihamidzic wants Mané!” he wrote on Twitter. “He is the desired top transfer in summer.
“[Julian] Nagelsmann is also aware of the plans. It’s top-secret within the club. First talks have taken place.”
It’s certainly easy to doubt the ‘top secret’ part of that – it’s about as unsecretive as it gets right now. Still, we firmly believe that Bayern would target Mané right now. Especially after yesterday’s talk that Robert Lewandowski wants to leave the club this summer.
Bayern Munich talks with Sadio Mané
Mané’s contract expires in 2023, forcing Liverpool into a difficult position. Do they risk losing him for free that year or sell this summer? The priority will almost certainly be a big new contract but we know the Reds struggle to match wage demands at times.
And if Bayern are looking to replace Lewandowski, you can imagine they’ll offer a sizeable wage-packet to Mané. Now, the talks Plettenberg mentions were almost certainly between Bayern and Mané’s representatives, rather than Liverpool or the player himself. This one would still have a long way to go.
But there will be a fight to keep the player this summer. Mané’s sparkling form in a new central role is only going to bring more interest, especially from a club like Bayern that potentially needs a new elite forward.
Liverpool must do what they can to come to terms soon or risk losing one of the world’s best players. It’s been a while since we’re had to say that.
