Arnaut Danjuma, a reported target for Liverpool, has a much cheaper release clause than initially reported. That’s according to further reports in Spain.

This comes from Marca. They claim that Arnaut Danjuma actually has a release clause of £45m – far cheaper than initially thought. In fact, that’s £17m less than Marca themselves thought, and the Athletic also reported a £62m clause earlier this year.

And per that Athletic article, Liverpool are one of the teams thinking of triggering it. They’ve long been linked with an interest in Danjuma – even before he made his move to Villarreal last summer.

Marca reported at the time that the Reds and Villarreal were the two teams looking to sign the Dutchman from Bournemouth. Liverpool never really put a bid in, however, and he left for Spain.

They still have a chance to get him, though, after a massively encouraging season.

Arnaut Danjuma has £45m release clause

Danjuma has been brilliant for Villarreal, earning praise from all corners as he consistently delivered. 16 goals and four assists is a fine return for his first season with a new club – especially when six of those came in the Champions League.

Liverpool played Villarreal in the semi-finals, of course, and that presented Danjuma with a chance to shine in front of potential suitors. It’s safe to say he didn’t quite do that but the 25-year-old also didn’t feature in the second leg. In fact, he hasn’t played at all since the game at Anfield.

The other ‘issue’ here is that Liverpool boast so many elite forwards right now. It’s difficult to see them paying £45m on another forward unless there’s a high-profile departure. That isn’t out of the question, though, as Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mané and Roberto Firmino all enter the final year of their respective contracts.

£45m for Danjuma could be a bargain, then – if it turns out that Liverpool could use him. One to watch in what will be a massive summer for the Reds.
