Jurgen Klopp says Jordan Henderson can fix his FA Cup final problem when Liverpool take on Chelsea. The captain has the answers.
Liverpool suffered a blow this week as Fabinho was ruled out of the FA Cup final. He pulled his hamstring on Tuesday against Aston Villa, forcing him out early and keeping him out for a couple of weeks.
While fans can breathe a sigh of relief that he should be back for the Champions League final, it’s still a blow. Chelsea are stern opposition but Liverpool won’t be able to call on their best XI for the FA Cup final. Instead, Jordan Henderson will take up the holding midfield role.
Jurgen Klopp certainly believes Henderson can fill the void. In fact, he says finding a replacement for Fabinho ‘isn’t a problem’.
“We have a few players[ who can help out],” he said, per the Mirror. “Hendo came on [at Villa] and played incredible, he has played super games this season at 6 so that is not a problem.”
Jordan Henderson to start FA Cup final
Henderson was always likely to start the final, of course. He’s the captain and Liverpool pretty undeniably play better with him in the team.
But the plan was for him to lineup alongside Thiago and Fabinho – for us, Liverpool’s best midfield three by some way. That won’t be possible now and we imagine Naby Keita will take up a spot in midfield as Henderson drops into the deeper role.
That should be enough to trouble Chelsea, certainly. Henderson is a fantastic holding midfielder, as he’s shown down the years, while Thiago and Keita have had brilliant moments this season.
So while Fabinho is a loss, we’re with Klopp on this one. Liverpool have the players to fix their problem and win the FA Cup final.
