Here are three midfielders Liverpool could sign after a reported blow in the Frenkie de Jon race. The Reds have great options.
Manchester United will almost certainly sign Frenkie de Jong, says Spanish journalist Gerard Romero. It’s something of a blow to Liverpool, who reportedly wanted the midfielder, too.
Sport claimed in February that the Reds were willing to ‘spend big’ on De Jong this summer. It appears that United got there first, though, and will claim the Dutchman for themselves.
So who would Liverpool turn to? Here are three midfielders Liverpool could sign as alternatives to De Jong.
Midfielders Liverpool could sign
Aurélien Tchouameni
Reports are that Liverpool really like Aurélien Tchouaméni and could make their move this summer. AS claimed just the other day that both the Reds and Real Madrid want him – and Real don’t want to pay his asking price.
The Times, too, believe Liverpool want Tchouaméni this summer. He’ll likely move and honestly, any price looks reasonable for someone who can seemingly do it all as a holding midfielder.
Jude Bellingham
SportBild claim Liverpool want Jude Bellingham, to the surprise of absolutely nobody. Bellingham is one of the world’s brightest prospects and fits the bill for the Reds in every conceivable way.
In fact, we believe there’s a very good case for the teenager to be Liverpool’s first £100m player. He’s just that good, capable of playing an all-action midfield role, while also filling the homegrown quota beautifully.

But really, the draw to Bellingham is simply that he’s a magnificent talent. Even if he didn’t fit so well, you’d find a way to include him. Liverpool are just fortunate that he ticks every box.
If ever there was a signing to blow De Jong out of the water, it’s this one.
Konrad Laimer
Kicker believes that Liverpool are one of a number of top clubs that want Konrad Laimer this summer. He’s expected to leave RB Leipzig as his contract expires in 2023 – they’ll want a fee this summer.
Laimer’s growing reputation would make him a wonderful signing, too. He’s a hugely talented midfielder and one that Julian Nagelsmann once called a “monster, ball-winning machine”.
And who wouldn’t want that on their team?
