Former Everton star James Rodriguez has claimed that he wants Liverpool to win the Champions League final later this month.
Speaking via his Twitch account and transcribed by noticiasrcn.com, James said he was supporting The Reds because of his Colombian teammate Luis Diaz.
“I want Liverpool to be champions,” said the 30-year-old. “I have many friends at Real Madrid and it’s a difficult team for these types of games, but I want ‘Lucho’ (Diaz) to win.”
It’s a stance that may upset some at two of James’ former clubs. Being an ex-Madrid man himself, that won’t go down too well with them. On top of that, you can only imagine the anger his comments will cause Toffees fans too!

James’ comments are a window into Liverpool’s newfound fame in Diaz’s home country of Colombia.
Upon his signing for Liverpool, it was claimed that The Reds would enjoy a boom in shirt sales in the South American nation.
Whether or not that is the case or not remains to be seen. What can be said for sure though, is that his performances for Liverpool so far have certainly won the hearts of those who live closer to Anfield.
The 25-year-old has quickly become Liverpool’s key attacking threat. He isn’t quite scoring at the rate that Sadio Mane currently is, that’s true. Nevertheless, he looks like providing the spark in every game he plays.
That was the case again last night at Villa Park. In a game of few real chances, Diaz’s exceptional cross took everyone by surprise. Mane guided it home to give Liverpool a vital win.
His quality coupled with his enthusiasm and happiness in and around the AXA Training Centre has drawn praise from Jurgen Klopp. It’s easy to see why his infectious personality has caused his international teammates to wish for his success.
All we need now is for current Everton man and fellow Colombian Yerry Mina to publicly claim he wants Liverpool to win the Premier League. Somehow though, we can’t see that happening
