'Should worry them most': Carragher picks out one Real Madrid man who will seriously trouble Liverpool

Jamie Carragher says there is one figure at Real Madrid who ‘should worry’ Liverpool the most. The UEFA Champions League final is coming.

Liverpool will face Real Madrid in the UEFA Champions League final later this month. It’s a repeat of the 2018 final, of course, that saw Los Blancos overcome the Reds on a dramatic night.

An injury to Mohamed Salah in Kyiv made things difficult for Liverpool. Two heartbreaking mistakes from Loris Karius then made it impossible – Real won but it felt as though Liverpool didn’t give them a proper game.

So there’s a reason why Salah says there’s a score to settle in Paris on May 28th. The Reds will want to set things right four years on.

But this is a very different Real side. Their talisman is different, with Karim Benzema stepping into the Cristiano Ronaldo void. There’s no Sergio Ramos at the back, either, and crucially, the man in the dugout has changed.

It’s now someone the Reds know incredibly well – Carlo Ancelotti. And according to Jamie Carragher, that should worry Liverpool.

Liverpool v Real Madrid

“Liverpool have no reason to fear Real Madrid in the Champions League final,” Carragher wrote for the Telegraph. “What should worry them most is my former neighbour, Carlo Ancelotti.

7 Footballers Who Were GENUINELY Irreplaceable

“Since Jürgen Klopp arrived at Anfield, only Pep Guardiola has won more games against Liverpool, Ancelotti enjoying success as Napoli and Everton manager.”

It’s true – Ancelotti has a way of getting the better of Klopp. He’s also a manager who has gotten the better of Liverpool in a Champions League final, having done so with AC Milan in 2007.

The Reds will point to 2005 as a perfect example of the reverse, of course.

But it’s true that Ancelotti is a major threat here. Not only does he have that record against Klopp but he’ll also hope to become the most successful manager in the history of the European Cup or Champions League.

No man has ever won the cup four times. Ancelotti won his third in 2014 with Real, becoming the first person to equal Bob Paisley’s three with Liverpool from 1977 to 1981. Zinedine Zidane has, of course, since become the third to achieve the feat.

Thus no manager really knows how to win this competition better than Ancelotti. Liverpool do need to be wary of him.
