Sadio Mané showed off the new 22/23 Liverpool kit alongside a potential successor at Anfield. The Reds’ future is bright.
Liverpool unveiled their Nike kit for next season on Thursday – and it’s already selling fast. Naturally, people are excited for the new look and we have to say it’s a good one.
The players are keen to show off the kit, too, with numerous posts all over social media today. One of those was from Sadio Mané, who was sure to include a potential successor in Liverpool’s forward line in the shot.
Sadio Mané and Kaide Gordon at Liverpool
Gordon won’t be a direct successor to Mané, of course – they play on opposite flanks. But they should, with any luck, represent two generations of Liverpool’s forwards.
Mané is one of the greatest we’ve seen at the club and might even be playing the best football of his career right now. It feels as though the Reds are relying on him as much as anyone in their Quadruple pursuit.
Gordon, on the other hand, is one of the brightest prospects at the club. He enjoyed a fantastic pre-season with the first-team that saw the likes of Trent Alexander-Arnold label him ‘frightening’. We’ve since seen his senior debut and even a first goal at the top level.
And the plan at Liverpool will undoubtedly be to phase the likes of Gordon into the first-team setup. From there, he can take over from the current stars – Mané included – as this generation move through their 30s.
But there’s still a long way to go, of course. Gordon has only had a few genuine chances this season and his development needs to come on quite some way before he approaches Mané’s level. There’s every chance he never makes it.
His talent, though, gives him a far better chance than most and Liverpool plainly believe Gordon can be a star. And who knows? One day, he may take a similar photo with a successor of his own.
