£29m man leads the way but no room for 'outstanding' midfielder: Klopp's most used Liverpool XI since 2015

Jurgen Klopp has put the indecision around his Liverpool future to bed by signing a new contract until 2026.

Should he see the deal through, the manager will have been at Liverpool for almost eleven years. In football terms, that’s practically a lifetime.

Since taking charge in 2015, Klopp has transformed Liverpool into a winning machine, using 99 players along the way.

To celebrate the German’s tenure at the club so far, we thought we’d take a look back at the eleven players he has used the most since 2015.

Defence

Many Liverpool fans would claim that they currently have the best goalkeeper in the world. Judging by how many times Alisson Becker has played for Klopp, it’s likely that the boss agrees.

The Brazilian has played 176 times and counting for Liverpool, comfortably ahead of second place Simon Mignolet who played exactly 100 times for Jurgen.

Your Club's SURPRISE Star This Season

At right-back it’s no surprise to see Trent Alexander-Arnold. The Scouser has blossomed into one of the most accomplished in his position in world football. As with Alisson, all of his Liverpool appearances have come under Klopp, amounting to 220 games.

The two centre-backs most used by Jurgen in his six-and-a-half years at Anfield are still going strong today. Even taking into account the full season missed he in 2020/21, Virgil Van Dijk is still the German’s most trusted defender, playing 175 times since 2018.

Not far behind him is Joel Matip. Like Van Dijk, he has missed a decent amount of football in recent times but has still managed 161 matches for Klopp.

Again, no shocks at left-back as Andy Robertson completes a familiar looking back five. The Scot has ranked up 218 games under the current boss.

Midfield

Klopp’s most used midfield three is something of a throw-back for Liverpool fans. Whereas they’ve got used to seeing Fabinho in The Reds midfield over the last four years, the player who the manager called ‘outstanding’ via BBC Sport in January hasn’t turned out for him enough times to make this eleven.

Instead, Jordan Henderson slots into the number 6 role. The captain is one of four players who have been in the first-team throughout Klopp’s stint at Liverpool, playing 253 games in that time.

Only three players have been on the teamsheet more often than Jurgen’s skipper. One of those is the man who has often worn the armband in his absence – James Milner.

The Yorkshireman looks set to leave the club this summer after seven years at Anfield. He won’t get too many chances to add to his haul, but with 275 games under his belt for Klopp, only one player can boast more.

There’s just one player in this particular team who is no longer playing for Liverpool. That player is the one and only Gini Wijnaldum. Playing 237 times in five years, Gini was remarkably consistent before leaving for PSG last summer.

Attack

Liverpool’s front three of Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane will go down as one of the most legendary components of Klopp’s Reds

The relationship between the three players has led Liverpool to huge success over the years. Although others may replace them before the 54-year-old eventually leaves the club, they’ll do well to match their longevity.

Arriving before Klopp for £29m in the summer of 2015, Firmino has gone on to be far and away the German’s most used player at Liverpool. 316 games have brought 98 goals and countless unforgettable moments.

Mane sits third on Klopp’s most used list, clocking up 262 games over a near seven year spell. Salah completes the legendary trio, playing 247 games and smashing in an astonishing 155 goals.

That many of this eleven are still playing and starting regularly for Liverpool just goes to show how settled many of Klopp’s squad are. What a team and what a manager, here’s to the next four years!

Klopp’s most used XI: Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Matip, Van Dijk, Robertson; Henderson, Milner, Wijnaldum; Salah, Firmino, Mane
