Gary Neville was taken aback by a moment from Alisson Becker for Liverpool against Manchester United. The Brazilian is a different class.

Liverpool smashed Manchester United once again tonight with a magnificent performance. The Reds were, from front to back, near-perfect and every player on the pitch had their moment – some more than others.

One player who didn’t actually have all that much to do, though, was Alisson Becker. The goalkeeper stopped some tame shots on goal and swept up well at the end of the first half but United didn’t ask too much of him.

Still, he found a way to impress Gary Neville on commentary. Alisson played a pass on 71 minutes that split United’s press to find an open Sadio Mané in midfield. It was a brave, accurate delivery and the kind you’d expect from a midfield playmaker, not the goalkeeper.

“That’s an unbelievable pass,” said Neville in commentary for Sky Sports. “I just watched a goalkeeper play a pass I don’t think I played in my entire career and I was an outfield player.”

Alisson for Liverpool

Alisson is playing sensationally right now, with match-defining saves and ability on the ball to leave you in awe. That pass was one of three moments tonight that were just fantastic.

The first was his drag-back when under pressure in his own box. It was skill that few midfielders would take a chance on and here’s Alisson making it look casual.

Then there was a magnificent kick from his hands to find Luis Diaz on the counter from a United corner. Alisson was unfortunate that the move broke down because a goal would have left people talking about it for weeks.

A world-class goalkeeper and one Liverpool are very fortunate to have. We wouldn’t swap Alisson for any alternative in the world right now.
