FSG president Mike Gordon was at Anfield last night and sat just a few seats away from the agent of Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp.
That’s according to The Times, who claim that Gordon has flown into Liverpool to discuss a new contract for Klopp as ‘one of his priorities.’
Liverpool are reportedly ready to ‘accelerate’ talks of an extension with Klopp after being encouraged by ‘positive noises’ from the German.
The Times claim that FSG want Klopp to remain in charge ‘for as long as he is comfortable.’ The manager was drained after a difficult campaign last year but has reportedly been ‘re-energised’ since.
It’s claimed that Klopp’s decision whether or not to extend will be ‘heavily influenced’ by whether assistants Pep Lijnders and Peter Krawietz are also keen to carry on.
Best news of a brilliant season
This could be the news that every Liverpool fan has been desperate to hear. The club has been completely transformed since Klopp joined the club in 2015.
Your Club's SURPRISE Star This Season
The prospect of the charismatic German walking away in 2024 is one which is dreaded by everyone connected with Liverpool.
As Alisson Becker said recently, Klopp is the key figure at the club. He is a figurehead and an icon and has taken the club to heights previously thought to be unimaginable.
Should Liverpool be able to tie Klopp down for the years to come, it should also help to resolve the contract issues surrounding some of his key players.
Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino have all been magnificent for the club during Klopp’s reign. But they too are nearing the end of their contracts.
Although factors such as age do come into it as well, knowing that the manager is going to be around for the foreseeable future could help to swing discussions.
There is so much positivity around the club at the moment. But regardless of any trophies won, a new contract for Jurgen would surely be the best news of the season.
