Andy Robertson was beaming as he talked about one ‘unbelievable’ Liverpool teammate after the 2-0 win over Everton. The Scot got his first goal in front of the Kop.
Andy Robertson was in fantastic spirits as he talked to Premier League Productions after Liverpool’s 2-0 win in the Merseyside derby. But then, of course he was – he bagged his first goal in front of the Kop and it came against Everton.
Liverpool’s left-back got the decisive one here just when it felt as though the day would end frustratingly. He headed in at the back post from a Mohamed Salah cross and the relief around Anfield was clear.
That wouldn’t be the end of it, though. Divock Origi stepped up late on to head home from close range – his sixth goal in 10 games against Everton – for what was surely his final Merseyside derby.
Robertson was positively beaming as he talked about his teammate after the game.
Andy Robertson on Divock Origi for Liverpool
“Divock is Divock!” he said. “You know, big-game player, especially against Everton – his record is unbelievable.
“When he came on, the mood kind of changed in here. Anfield believes Divock was going to score and that’s the kind of attitude you have around him.
“Fantastic player, unbelievable, and I’m so happy he got his goal today, as well.”
It was an incredible moment for Origi as he does almost certainly leave Liverpool this summer. His contract comes to a end and competition at Anfield is just too much. Despite his obvious ability, he just can’t get games regularly ahead of the others and that will force him out of the club in July.
That’s a big shame, obviously. Everyone loves Origi and what he brings to the side and there really aren’t many better big-game players. But he does deserve regular football.
If this was his final moment in a Liverpool shirt, there’s none more fitting.
