Report: Brendan Rodgers now wants to beat Liverpool to sign £40m star, Reds were allegedly leading the race

Leicester City have entered the frame to sign reported Liverpool target Gleison Bremer this summer.

That’s according to The Telegraph, who claim that The Foxes will ‘make a push’ to sign Bremer from Torino.

Brendan Rodgers has reportedly installed the Brazilian at ‘the top of his list’ of centre-back targets. Bremer won’t come cheap though, The Telegraph claim that Torino rate him at around £40m.

Rodgers will also have to fend of interest from his old club for the 25-year-old. Liverpool are said to be ‘admirers’ of the player, whilst Tottenham Hotspur have also ‘added him to their list.’

Bremer a wanted man

Bremer looks set to be one of the most wanted players on the market this summer. After a breakout season with Torino, he looks ready to play for a top team.

Liverpool have been mooted as an interested party for quite some time. Tuttosport even claimed that The Reds were in ‘first place’ to sign Bremer as recently as last month.

Since then, rumours have intensified that Jurgen Klopp wants to bring him to Anfield. Just last Tuesday journalist Marco Barzaghi claimed via FCInter1908 that Liverpool would provide ‘huge competition’ in the race to sign the defender.

However, the journalist did also claim that Bremer’s entourage have an ‘agreement in principle’ with Inter Milan.

Worth the money, but not for Liverpool

£40m would represent a significant outlay for whoever does end up winning the race for Bremer’s signature. He looks to be worth it, but that kind of price-tag would likely see Liverpool drop out of the running.

Unless there are any departures, Klopp is well-stocked in the position. Virgil Van Dijk and Joel Matip have been brilliant all season and last summer’s signing Ibrahima Konate is now starting to shine for Liverpool too.

With Joe Gomez also waiting in the wings, Klopp doesn’t need to be spending that kind of money on what would likely be a back-up player.
