Celtic youngster Ben Doak will complete a transfer to Liverpool. It’s been a rumoured deal for a while and the 16-year-old confirms it.

Ben Doak took to Instagram on Thursday afternoon to confirm that he’s signed for Liverpool. The 16-year-old wrote that he’s “looking forward to a new chapter” in the post as he completes a move from Celtic.

This is one that’s been building for a while now. The Athletic reported over a month ago that Liverpool would sign Doak – they just needed to arrange the finances.

The Reds will reportedly pay around £600k to Celtic for the teenager. It’s a fairly hefty fee, given his lack of experience but also a testament to his potential. Liverpool will believe they’ve got a star here.

Ben Doak completes Liverpool transfer

Doak comes with a decent reputation for a youngster out of Scotland. He’s already made his senior debut, for one thing, with Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou labelling him ‘fantastic’. There’s certainly a sense that the kid isn’t too far off that senior level – much like Kaide Gordon a year ago now.

And so Liverpool will hope they have another young player in that mould. It’s easy to see why they think that, too.

His assist for Scotland Under 17s recently shows what Doak is capable of. He’s quick, intelligent with his running and can pick the right pass. Doak just requires the right guidance and we’ll certainly back Liverpool to give him just that.

Their record with youngsters is pretty fantastic right now, even if they can’t always find room in their first-team squad. But those who struggled for minutes in Red – like Neco Williams and Sepp van den Berg – have since gone out on loan to show that they’re top talents.

For Doak, then, it’s about progressing steadily and then finding first-team football. The future certainly looks bright, though, and we can’t wait to see what he’s all about.
