Ben Doak, reportedly close to joining Liverpool, registered a fantastic assist for Scotland Under 17s on Wednesday evening.
Liverpool are quite close to signing Ben Doak from Celtic, according to the Athletic. The 16-year-old became one of the club’s youngest ever players back in January when he debuted for the Bhoys.
He’s without a contract, however, and that makes Doak an easy target for ‘bigger’ clubs. Liverpool supposedly rate him very highly and one to get a deal done soon.
And there’s certainly reason to be excited. Doak looks like a top young player and former Celtic youth coach Mark Miller told the Athletic was quick to point out just how quick he is.
“That’s a boy with pace — a lad you couldn’t describe as shy,” said Miller. “Plenty of self-belief and ambition, very quick and very good on the ball.”
And if anyone wants to see that in action, they need only check out Scotland Under17s on Wednesday evening. Doak took to the field against the Czech Republic, providing an assist that showed wonderful pace.
The youngster picks the ball up from his goalkeeper, 40 yards from his own goal. One quick turn removes two markers and Doak was away. A burst of pace left them for dead as he pushed through the heart of midfield before a perfect through-ball created a goal.

The Reds continue to stockpile some incredible youngsters and Doak appears to fit that billing. Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou labelled him ‘fantastic’ after his debut and praise continues to surround the teenager from all corners.
And yes, performing against the Czech U17s isn’t the highest standard but the assist is a great demonstration of what Doak likes to do. He wants to run with the ball, take players on and force things to happen in a game.
Put that talent at Liverpool with their recent track record and we have little doubt that Doak can become a brilliant player.
