James Milner was left in disbelief after Mohamed Salah’s wonderful team goal put Liverpool 2-0 up against Manchester United last night.
As seen in a video shared by Liverpool FC on Twitter, The Reds vice-captain held his hands to his mouth in shock as the goal went in.
Salah’s finish off the back of an astounding pass from Sadio Mane will surely be a contender for Goal of the Season. The build-up play involving Joel Matip, Luis Diaz and Mane was a perfect example of how slick Liverpool’s attacking play can be.
Many in the stadium and watching at home will have had the same reaction. “Wow!” was Jamie Carragher’s verdict whilst on commentary for Sky Sports, and that just about sums it up.
Liverpool hitting their stride
All of Liverpool’s goals last night were a joy to watch. From Diaz’s slick opener to Mane’s delicate left-footed finish, it was an exhibition of excellence in-front of goal.

Salah’s strike to break his goal drought was surely the pick of the bunch, though. The speed at which Liverpool pinged it around United’s back four was the sign of a team truly on top of their game.
You can’t play football like that unless your confidence is high. It bodes well for Liverpool fans for the rest of the season in that The Reds are feeling capable of producing such magic when the stakes are high.
It has been the case for patches of the season that Liverpool have felt to be scraping through games.

This was maybe most notably in the 2-2 draw against Manchester City at the Etihad ten days ago. That day Jurgen Klopp’s team were poor for large swathes of the match and were lucky to escape with a point. But escape with a point they did.
In the three games since then, they have been electric, scoring 10 times. With a maximum of 10 games now remaining in the season, it could be that we are about to see this Liverpool team hitting it’s absolute peak.
