Liverpool are interested in bringing Aberdeen full-back Calvin Ramsay to Anfield this summer.

That’s according to Calciomercato, who claim that The Reds are plotting to swoop for the 18-year-old at the end of the season.

The report claims that Liverpool will battle Europa League semi-finalists Eintracht Frankfurt for Ramsay’s signature.

Who is Calvin Ramsay

After breaking into the first-team at the end of last season, Ramsay has become a mainstay for Aberdeen in 2021/22.

Despite being just eighteen, he has played in 22 of the club’s 33 Premiership games this year, starting 19 times. He has managed a goal and four assists in those games.

In December, Aberdeen chairman Dave Cormack even claimed that Ramsay was in the ‘elite upper bracket’ of young right-back’s in Europe.

“There are not many right-back’s at his age like him, doing what he does,” Cormack said via Scottish Daily Express. “Look at the data and all the clubs look at the same (scouting) systems.

“He is in the elite upper bracket, right up there, for a young right-back in Europe.”

Could Liverpool make a move

It looks as though Liverpool could be in the market for a new right-back this summer. Trent Alexander-Arnold obviously isn’t going anywhere, but Jurgen Klopp may need to shore up his options when it comes to cover for the Scouser.

Heading into this season, Neco Williams was the preferred option. However, he was never fully convincing when stepping in for Trent and was loaned to Fulham in January.

After a superb spell in West London, there are rumours that Williams will be back at Fulham next year, whether on-loan or in a permanent deal.

As the back-up to Alexander-Arnold is unlikely to get too much meaningful game time, a move for a young player with potential makes sense.

Ramsay has proven that he can handle men’s football in a league as physical as Scotland’s top division. That should put him ahead of the likes of Liverpool academy right-back Conor Bradley in his development.

It’s unlikely that Ramsay would cost Liverpool too much and should have big re-sale potential. For all those reasons, this is certainly a move which could be worth keeping an eye on.
