Phil Foden admits he’s a big fan of Liverpool full-back Trent Alexander-Arnold. Pep Guardiola also praised the Scouser.
It’s Liverpool versus Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday and so, naturally, the two teams are talking about one another. This isn’t exactly trash-talk, though – more of a love-in.
Jurgen Klopp, for instance, has declared that Pep Guardiola is the best manager in the world. Guardiola, in turn, says that’s definitely not the case and labelled Klopp’s Liverpool the toughest opponent he’s ever faced.
The Spaniard also had kind words about one Liverpool player – Trent Alexander-Arnold. He called the Scouser ‘an exhibition’ in the way he plays.
And it turns out that he’s not the only City figure to love Alexander-Arnold. Phil Foden, who likely comes directly up against the Liverpool man on Sunday, is also a fan.
“I love the way he passes the ball,” Foden told Sky Sports. “I think he’s one of the best passers I’ve ever seen on the ball. Yeah, I do like watching him play.”
Phil Foden on Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold
It is always nice to see such high praise for Alexander-Arnold. Honestly, there isn’t enough of it going around – what he’s been doing over the last few years is absolutely incredible.

And yet, there’s a serious debate over whether he should get in the England team. Players with half of his CV are compared with him. It’s quite strange at times – no wonder Klopp wants to knock people out.
And Alexander-Arnold will certainly play a key role for Liverpool on Sunday. In fact, as Liverpool try to get in behind City, he might be the most important player on the pitch. If the 23-year-old can keep Foden quiet and pick out the forwards, Liverpool have their best chance of winning against Manchester City.
