Liverpool look set to avoid a repeat of a costly mistake as they reportedly near a deal for Fabio Carvalho. The Reds may have a true bargain.
Multiple outlets, including the Athletic, report that Liverpool will sign Fabio Carvalho in the summer for around £7.7m. He’s a player they tried to sign back in January, of course, only for the deal to collapse at literally the last minute.
But the Reds aren’t wasting time in fixing things. This deal would wrap things up ahead of the transfer window – that’s peace of mind, at the very least.
Striking a deal now can also avoid what’s been a costly mistake in the past. Liverpool may well look back at this one as an absolute steal.
Liverpool near Fabio Carvalho deal
Liverpool are dipping into the Championship here – a move that would have felt unthinkable only a few years ago. After all, the club won’t know exactly how Carvalho takes to life in the Premier League. Moving up a level could prove too much for him.
And in the past, Liverpool would have waited. That’s what they did with Jarrod Bowen, for instance, as he moved to West Ham United.
Liverpool supposedly like Bowen a lot, per the Athletic. Jurgen Klopp openly does, labelling him an ‘unbelievable player’. But they watched him move to East London, rather than taking a chance themselves.
Bowen is now worth an absolute fortune, taking to the Premier League with ease and shining incredibly brightly.

It’s something they did with Arnaut Danjuma, too. Goal reported only yesterday that Liverpool still want the player – nearly a year after Marca claimed they were looking. The Reds initially liked him at Bournemouth, though, but waited and watched him move to Villarreal.
Danjuma has now proven himself at the highest level but once again, he’s now worth far, far more than last summer. Waiting costs Liverpool significantly.
And so it’s interesting to see the quick move for Carvalho. Rather than him moving on, proving himself and driving his price up, Liverpool pay a small fee to take him up that level themselves. It could look like genius this time next year.
