One-time Liverpool target Arnaut Danjuma believes he’s now one of the best wingers ‘in the world’. The player is having a great season.

Liverpool supposedly like Arnaut Danjuma and have done since the summer. Marca claimed they would rival Villarreal for his signature from Bournemouth, quoting a price of around £21m.

Backing that up, Danjuma would later join Villarreal for exactly that price, per Sky Sports. But Liverpool’s interest doesn’t appear to have stopped there.

And why would it? Danjuma is having a fantastic season in Spain, scoring 13 goals from the wing across La Liga and the Champions League. He’s picked up four assists, too, and proven that he wasn’t simply a Championship star but has the ability to play at the elite level.

In fact, Danjuma believes his progress has moved his standing right up to the very top.

“If we look at what I’ve done this season it’s quite fair and factual to say I’m among the best wingers in the world,” he told the Guardian this week. “To be the best you need to aim for more, and there’s so much I still want to achieve.”

Liverpool like Arnaut Danjuma

Fabrizio Romano claimed back in December that Liverpool still had their eyes on Danjuma.

“A player they really love is Danjuma, the winger of Villarreal,” Romano told his Here We Go podcast. “He’s very good, but he’s not leaving in January. I’m told it’s impossible, [and] that the player is going to stay until the end of the season.”

But we wonder if that interest remains. Liverpool, after all, were looking at another left-winger in January and ended up signing him – Luis Diaz.

With that in mind, it seems unlikely that Liverpool would now spend a large amount on Danjuma. Yes, he’s gone on to prove himself at the top level but there just isn’t room at Anfield anymore. A shame, perhaps, but we’re certainly happy with Diaz.
