Talks have finally begun to progress with Mohamed Salah in order to extend his Liverpool contract.
That’s according to Sky Sports journalist Melissa Reddy. In a video posted on Sky Sports Premier League on Twitter, Reddy shared a positive update for Liverpool fans.
“The dialogue seems to have improved between both parties, the club and Salah’s camp,” said Reddy.
“From what I gather in December talks were pretty much iced because Salah’s people weren’t happy with the terms on the table, now it looks like dialogue has been resurrected.”
Fantastic stuff! After all kinds of discouraging updates and transfer links, it’s great to hear some good news regarding the Egyptians contract extension.
However, Reddy did then temper this by saying that a deal could still take some time to be reached.
“I think reports that it’s close were a bit premature. I think there’s a lot of middle ground still to be made up still.”

Finding a solution
Throughout Salah’s contract standoff, the line has always been that he is happy in Liverpool and wants to find a solution.
According to Fabrizio Romano via Anfield Watch, Mo’s rejection in December was purely on a financial basis. He wasn’t happy with the money being offered but was loathe to leave the club.
It could be that there was simply a high-stakes game of poker going on. Liverpool have a very strict wage structure that they will simply not break.
Perhaps Salah and his agents felt that the club would bend a little on this.
As Liverpool have shown in the past though, they will happily lose important players on free transfers rather than submit to demands they feel are beyond their means.
This is commendable in theory. But when you risk losing a player as unbelievably good as Salah has been, everything must be done to find a solution.
Luckily, it seems as though the two parties could soon come to an agreement. As Reddy points out, there could still be a way to go. But Liverpool want him to stay and Salah seemingly doesn’t want to go anywhere either. What could go wrong?
