Liverpool have their eyes on Christopher Nkunku, according to reports. The RB Leipzig star would come at a big price.

This comes from ESPN. They claim that Liverpool are one of several major clubs currently monitoring Christopher Nkunku.

The Frenchman has enjoyed a remarkable season with RB Leipzig and there’s now a sense that he could move on. Leipzig aren’t exactly on board with that, however, and hope to renew his contract this summer.

In fact, any club wanting to sign Nkunku must pay a small fortune. Leipzig would want over £63m for any kind of transfer – a steep price for the 24-year-old. Though, not an unjustifiable one for the right club.

Liverpool will spend the next little while assessing if they can justify it, then. It’s certainly not beyond the realm of possibility.

Liverpool look at Christopher Nkunku

Nkunku is having a sensational season with Leipzig, scoring 26 goals and assisting 10 more in all competitions. He’s done that while playing every attacking position, too – no.10, centre-forward and on both wings.

The 24-year-old is an incredibly exciting prospect for any buying club, then. Nkunku would, in theory, slot into a top side nicely and he’s capable of delivering both creativity and finishing.

We’re written before that Liverpool should have eyes on the player, given what they want from their forwards. Nkunku is one of the few players who could fit into this current group with ease and deliver the all-around game that the Reds want.

In fact, there are few players in football right now better suited to replace Roberto Firmino long-term. When Liverpool finally decide to move on from the Brazilian, we imagine a move for Nkunku would be near the top of the agenda.

Now, that might not be in 2022 but we think Nkunku is one to watch at Liverpool. If there’s a chance, even at £63m, they may well take it – if the timing is right.
