Liverpool could receive an extra boost to their transfer kitty as Premier League clubs prepare to bid for former striker Taiwo Awoniyi.
That’s according to Goal who claim that Liverpool inserted a clause that would see them secure 10% of any future transfer fee on Awoniyi.
Jurgen Klopp sold the Nigerian to Union Berlin for £6.5m last summer. The 24-year-old has scored 16 times for the German club. This has reportedly alerted the interest of Newcastle United, West Ham United and Southampton.

According to the report, those teams would be prepared to pay £25m to sign Awoniyi. This would net Liverpool an extra £2.5m for the player, who never played a single minute for the club.
Proving a point
Liverpool bought Awoniyi as an 18-year-old in 2015. But unfortunately work permit issues meant that he bounced around on-loan.
Much like Brazilian midfielder Allan, the player was never able to fully settle at any of his temporary homes.

That was until a move to Union Berlin for the 2020/21 season. Awoniyi scored five goals for the club which convinced them to sign him permanently last year.
Since then he has been in magnificent form. His 16 goals have come in 35 games and earned him a call-up to the Nigeria squad for the AFCON tournament in January.
His appearances for Nigeria should now be enough to see him gain a work permit for a move to the Premier League.

Having been denied the chance to play for Liverpool, it would be great to see Awoniyi make the belated move to England.
The Reds will be hoping that he can continue his good form for the rest of the season. It would be a nice story if he could earn himself the chance to prove a point in England. But also it would provide Liverpool with a nice little cash injection, too.
