Jordan Henderson sent a furious message to certain England fans on Tuesday evening after they booed Harry Maguire at Wembley.

Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson is not happy with certain sections of the England support after an incredible reaction to Harry Maguire. The Manchester United defender received boos and jeers from the crowd at Wembley as England beat the Ivory Coast.

The reaction shocked Henderson, who took to Twitter to address those fans.

“I can’t get my head around what happened at Wembley tonight,” he wrote. “Harry Maguire has been a colossus for England. Without him, the progress made at the last two tournaments would not have been possible.

“To be booed at his home stadium, for no reason? What have we become? What happened tonight was just wrong.

“As someone who wants to win with England, I feel fortunate to share a dressing room with him. We all feel the same!”

Not strictly anything to do with Liverpool, this, but we’re always going to celebrate the captain being one of the absolute best leaders around. He’s showing that again here.

England fans booing Maguire is simply bizarre – he’s been great for his country. His sub-par performances for Manchester United are one thing but he’s not actually playing for United here. In fact, most England fans don’t support United and thus his poor displays don’t affect them.

We don’t get it but it is what it is. And Henderson is one of the best-placed people in football to understand a negative reputation like this. He’s had grossly unfair receptions for England, too, though not quite to this extent.

So it’s good to see him call out the idiots in the stands who are jumping in with the mob here. It’s not like we needed another example of Henderson’s fantastic leadership standards at this point but we’ve got one. Liverpool have a captain to be proud of.
