Fabrizio Romano has said that reported Liverpool transfer target Aurelien Tchouameni will cost any potential buyers over £40m this summer.

Speaking on his YouTube channel (2mins 35secs), Romano said that there are many teams looking into signing the 22-year-old.

“There are many big clubs following Aurelian Tchouameni, the race is absolutely open, this boy is special,” he said.

“€50m (£42m) is not enough now, they’ll need more than this if they want to sign Tchouameni in the summer. But let’s see because he’ll be one of the big names on the market.”

Marca recently named Liverpool as one of the clubs taking a great interest in signing the player from Monaco this summer.

But it seems that The Reds will be competing against many of the biggest names in European football for the Frenchman.

A reasonable price

Of course ‘over’ £40m could really mean anything. But the insinuation here is that the price for Tchouameni won’t be too much more than the numbers being spoken about.

Weighing everything up, it sounds like the kind of deal that Liverpool could sanction.

Tchouameni only turned twenty-two in January. He has already played over 80 games in the French top-flight as well as earning eight caps for his national team – the current World Champions no less.

Although he has no Champions League experience, he has played extensively in the Europa League for Monaco this season.

With that kind of CV, and the potential he looks to posses, Liverpool may not find a more accomplished midfielder for a better price this summer.

The Reds don’t tend to go above £50m for players unless they feel they are really special. If Julian Ward thinks that he can find better value in a different deal, then Liverpool won’t be held to ransom.

Tchouameni looks like being one of the best players available on the market this summer. But you still wouldn’t put it past the Liverpool recruitment team to find an even better player for less, though.
