Neco Williams was one of the players to make a difference for Wales last night as they beat Austria 2-1.

That’s according to WalesOnline. They gave the on-loan Liverpool full-back an eight out of ten for his display on Thursday night. Only two-goal hero Gareth Bale scored higher.

The 20-year-old played in a slightly unfamiliar left-sided role. With a three-man defence behind him, he had full license to bomb on and join the Welsh attack.

And WalesOnline said the Liverpool academy graduate was ‘typically brilliant going forward.’ His ability to remain calm when in possession also drew praise. Williams’ composure on the ball is claimed as being ‘well beyond his years or experience.’

They conclude the rating by calling Neco ‘already a massive, massive player for his country.’ Words that will no doubt delight Jurgen Klopp and the Liverpool coaching staff.

Getting restless

It isn’t the first time that Williams has earnt rave reviews for his performances for his country. Yesterday was already his 18th cap for Wales and he has become a key player for them over a relatively short period of time.

Obviously, this is in stark contrast to his role at Liverpool. This was addressed in January when the full-back joined Fulham on-loan to get more game time.

He has been excellent for the Cottagers as they push for Premier League promotion. Making the right-back role berth his own, he has managed two goals in two assists in the Championship.

As reported in The Sunday Mirror in November (28/11 p73), the youngster wants to find a team where he can play week-in-week-out.

Although he has since found that regular football at Fulham, the suggestion is that he would prefer a more permanent solution.

Wales took another step towards World Cup qualification last night. Should they complete the job, then Williams desire to leave for first-team football will surely grow.

The good news for Liverpool is that with displays as good as the one last night, his value is only going to rise.
