Juventus believe a unique rule can see them sign Mohamed Salah from Liverpool, according to reports. The Egyptian’s future is up in the air.
This comes from Gazzetta Dello Sport. They claim that Juventus see a way to sign Mohamed Salah from Liverpool – or at least keep them competitive in any race.
Salah’s contract expires in 2023, of course, and is yet to agree on an extension with Liverpool. It could well be that the Reds cash-in this summer or risk losing him for nothing in a year’s time.
The reason for a lack of extension? Money. Salah wants to be paid in line with other superstars, something Liverpool can’t quite match with any comfort. Gazzetta claims he wants around an extra £10m per year – an amount that virtually doubles his current wage.
Now, that figure includes tax, of course. Salah would only earn 45% of that in the highest tax bracket while playing in UK and that’s where Juventus come in.
They can benefit from a ‘Growth Decree’ which means top players only pay 25% tax in Italy. That hands them a sizeable advantage when it comes to offering Salah a contract – an advantage they believe makes them competitive.
Juventus want Mohamed Salah from Liverpool
So Juventus don’t have to promise Salah as much as Liverpool to give him the same after-tax amount. That really could be decisive here, if the player sticks to his demands.

And for what it’s worth, Juventus’s interest appears to be genuine. CalcioMercato also reported that they had eyes on the player today.
We don’t expect this to come into effect for 2022, though. Reports suggest Salah will wait things out until at least 2023 – so we’ll see if Juventus try anything then. As things stand, however, Liverpool will start getting nervous.
