Mohamed Salah could leave Liverpool on a free after contract talks broke down, according to Fabrizio Romano. The Egyptian’s future is certainly in doubt.
Fabrizio Romano claims Mohamed Salah is open to the idea of leaving Liverpool as a free agent. Salah’s contract expires in 2023 and apparently won’t push for a transfer this summer.
“Salah is not desperate to leave this summer, so 2022,” Romano said on YouTube. “He’s out of contract in 2023, so Mo Salah could stay at Liverpool and leave, potentially, as a free agent if they’re not able to reach an agreement in the next 15 months. So there’s still time.”
This comes as Romano also claims that contract talks between the ‘incredible’ Salah and Liverpool ‘broke down’ in December. There’s a simple reason why, too – money.
“What I can tell you as an exclusive is that from what I am told, talks between Mo Salah, his agent, and Liverpool football club broke down as of now,” he said. “At the moment, there are no negotiations between Mo Salah, his environment and Liverpool.
“The last conversation was in December, so three months ago, a conversation where Liverpool made their proposal but Mo Salah and his agent were not happy with that proposal. They can’t accept that proposal.
“It’s important to understand that Liverpool, from what I’m told, want to continue with their salary structure that is respectful for every player in their team.”

This comes on the same day that Jurgen Klopp answered a question on Salah in his pre-match press conference. His answer was fairly uninteresting, in all honesty, as he repeated what he’s said time and time again. Everyone wants Salah at Liverpool but the ball is in his court.
That appeared to prompt a response from Salah’s agent, who posted laughing emojis on Twitter shortly afterwards. By complete coincidence, Romano is now delivering an exclusive update with information from Salah’s side. Strange, that.
Now, it’s been clear for some time that this is one that will run and run. No one seems close to an answer and there’s rightly a debate over the correct move. Do Liverpool change their wage structure for a world-class player? Or do they stick to what brought them so much success?
We don’t know – both sides have strong arguments. Hopefully, we get a proper answer before the summer’s done.
