Liverpool have again been suggested as a possible destination for Erling Haaland this summer.

Mundo Deportivo have namechecked The Reds as a club who could be weighing up a move for the Norwegian.

According to the report, any move from Liverpool would hinge on them losing Mohamed Salah at the end of the season.

Manchester City and Real Madrid are still claimed to be favourites to land the 21-year-old. But Barcelona, PSG, Manchester United, Bayern Munich and Liverpool are all said to be interested in the right circumstances.

In Liverpool’s instance, that appears to be in the case of losing Salah. That would be a nightmare scenario for Liverpool fans. But should Salah leaving mean that Haaland rocks up at Anfield, it would be a pretty good consolation.

Awaiting a decision

The Haaland transfer saga is described as a ‘circus’ in the report from Mundo Deportivo and that seems like a good word to describe it.

Of course that’s exactly what his agent, Mino Raiola, wants. Raiola is unscrupulous and a bidding war would be a good way to ensure he lines his pockets as thickly as possible from Haaland’s summer move.

The player himself will obviously make a superb addition to whoever he signs for. If City manage to land him, it would make life very difficult for Liverpool in the Premier League.

According to Guillem Balague for BBC Sport, the decision from Haaland is said to arrive this week. It would be a huge surprise if that decision were to join Liverpool.

The Reds have been linked to the Leeds-born forward in the past (Sky Germany). But it feels like the kind of saga that Liverpool typically stay away from.

Balague claims that Man City, Barcelona and Real Madrid are the three clubs who have a chance of successfully triggering his £63.2m release clause.

But perhaps the club’s transfer plans have changed now that Salah has openly rejected a contract offer.

The fee is relatively manageable for a player as good as the Borussia Dortmund striker. But his wage demands and the all the fees associated with the transfer surely ruled Liverpool out a long time ago.

Indeed, the Daily Mail says City are willing to make Haaland the highest paid player in English football on over £500,000-a-week.

As a result, we definitely won’t be holding our breath on this one – but it’s nice to see think that the chance of having Haaland at Anfield next season still remains a possibility.
