Gary Lineker couldn’t help but laugh at how good Trent Alexander-Arnold was for Liverpool on Wednesday night. The Scouser showed off his passing range.
Trent Alexander-Arnold didn’t have his easiest night for Liverpool when they took on Arsenal at the Emirates. Gabriel Martinelli gave him a torrid time, running with the ball at pace and looking impossible to read.
Alexander-Arnold just about handled him, however. Martinelli looked dangerous but failed to truly create anything – the right-back got away with it here.
Going forward, though, Alexander-Arnold was as good as ever. His passing range was extraordinary at times, with first-team sweeping passes putting Liverpool through on a couple of occasions.
One to Sadio Mané was exquisite – the no.10 just fired over. Diogo Jota likely should have done much better with another, too. In all, Arsenal just couldn’t afford to step up with Alexander-Arnold constantly looking capable of releasing a dangerous forward.
Gary Lineker – evidently a massive Alexander-Arnold fan – took to Twitter to celebrate the passes. Though, he still can’t believe they’re coming from a right-back.
“The best passer of a football in the English game is a right back,” he wrote. “What’s happened to our sport?”
Trent Alexander-Arnold for Liverpool vs Arsenal
Arsenal are a top side in fantastic form right now but they didn’t know what to do with Alexander-Arnold here. His passing opened them up on several occasions – as we’ve come to expect from the 23-year-old.

But he couldn’t quite get his assist. Both Mané and Jota spurned the chances, not that they were exactly simple.
Still, it’s yet another example of what Alexander-Arnold can do. He’s pretty unquestionably the best passing defender we’ve ever seen and might just be the best outright passer right now. Only Kevin De Bruyne is really rivalling him.
A sensational player who earns every bit of praise he gets.
