‘As of today’; Fabrizio Romano has update on Mo Salah’s future at Liverpool

Fabrizio Romano explained what Mohamed Salah thinks about a transfer to La Liga this week. Barcelona supposedly want the player.

There’s a little bit of talk that Barcelona want to add Mohamed Salah in the transfer window. Or at least, that they’re monitoring the situation at Liverpool closely, according to Mundo Deportivo.

After all, Salah will only have one year on his contract come this summer – a difficult position for the Reds. It doesn’t appear that they’re any closer to agreeing on a new one and speculation will only grow from here.

Barcelona, of course, are attempting to rebuild. Salah would be a major signing, potentially as big as it gets for them right now. Even at 30, the Egyptian is a game-changing addition for any team.

But what does Salah actually think about such a move? Fabrizio Romano reports that he’s not all that eager.

“Mo Salah’s currently not planning for La Liga move,” Romano wrote on Twitter. “He’s not desperate to leave this summer – his contract expires in June 2023 when he could leave on a free. “Mo’s only focused on Liverpool as of today.

“New contract talks [are] still broken – it’s only up to Liverpool.”

This follows something similar from Romano last week. He doesn’t believe there’s any intent on Salah’s part to force a move this summer.

That makes sense. We imagine Liverpool would rather hold onto the player for an extra year than sell him, anyway. There’s always the chance that the extra time brings a contract agreement, while we think a year of Salah is likely worth more than whatever Barcelona – or whoever else – is willing to pay.

But speculation will grow steadily over the next little while. This may well be the stance now – but that doesn’t mean things remain that way.
