Gabby Agbonlahor has praised the performance of Ibrahima Konate for Liverpool last night.

Speaking on talkSPORT this morning, the pundit gave his thoughts on the 22-year-old’s commanding display.

“Amazing result for Liverpool,” said Agbonlahor,

“(They) Defended well, Van Dijk is looking like the best defender in the world at the moment, Konate is looking better and better every game.”

It was a certainly a very impressive performance from the Frenchman. At one stage of the game the waves of Inter attacks were relentless.

But Liverpool’s centre-back pair wouldn’t be breached. Konate was absolutely excellent in repelling those attacks time and time again.

Alongside the imperious Van Dijk, he ensured that Inter came away without having a shot on target.

It was another brilliant performance in the San Siro for Konate. The £35m man was sensational as Liverpool beat Inter’s neighbours AC Milan in the same stadium in December.

Carragher weighs in

It wasn’t the only praise coming the way of Konate.

Jamie Carragher knows a thing or two about keeping a clean sheet in the San Siro, having done it for Liverpool against Inter in 2008.

The former centre-back gave his thoughts on Konate’s showing, calling the defender’s display ‘excellent.’

“Great result for LFC in San Siro again,” Carragher wrote on Twitter.

“I thought Konate was excellent.”

Liverpool’s only signing of last summer’s transfer window, Konate has been eased in by Jurgen Klopp.

But this was the latest in a string of very encouraging games from the French under-21 international. There is an argument to be had that he should now be thought of as Van Dijk’s primary defensive partner.

Following the arrival of Luis Diaz, Klopp has a selection headache up front. If Konate keeps up this kind of form, he’ll soon have one at the back too.
