Liverpool could be interested in signing Bayern Munich midfielder Corentin Tolisso, report calciomercato.com.
The 27-year-old’s contract expires this summer. This has alerted Liverpool’s interest. But according to the report, Bayern remain keen on extending his current terms.
The German champions signed Tolisso from Lyon for £35m in 2017. The Frenchman has won a stack of trophies with Bayern, including the 2020 Champions League alongside Thiago Alcantara.
But injury has restricted his progress and Bayern could now lose him for nothing.
A trophy-laden career
As well as four domestic titles with Bayern, Tolisso has also won the World Cup with France. He played in every round of the competition as Didier Deschamps side lifted the trophy in 2018.
Prior to that victory, he was compared to Toni Kroos and labelled ‘dangerous’ by French legend and former Bayern player Jean-Pierre Papin (Bild).
Tolisso hasn’t been considered a starter for Bayern in recent seasons. But he has lined up for three of the last four games for Julian Nagelsmann’s team. He also came off the bench at half-time in the last game, a shock 4-2 defeat to Vfl Bochum.
Should Liverpool be interested
It isn’t a surprise to see Liverpool linked with Tolisso. As the club prepare to finally replace Gini Wijnaldum this summer, we look set for another few months of reports claiming interest in every midfielder under the sun.
The Lyon academy graduate’s contract is soon to end and as a result, he would represent a cut-price deal.
Tolisso, for his part, has previously declared his desire to play in the Premier League. Whilst still at his former club, he gave an interview in which he included Arsenal in his list of ‘dream’ clubs.
“A lot of clubs make me dream like Real Madrid, FC Barcelona or England with teams like Arsenal,” he said to France Football in 2016.
“I love the Premier League and I think I have the profile. It is the Championship that also offers the most competition, which is the most open, the most contested and the most spectacular.”
He certainly looks to have the build to play in England. He’s a box-to-box midfielder who is capable of scoring spectacular goals.
But given his age and, more significantly, his injury history, we think we’d rather see him fulfil his dream of playing for The Gunners.
