Mohamed Salah returns in our predicted Liverpool team vs Burnley

Here’s our predicted Liverpool team to face Burnley on Sunday afternoon. Mohamed Salah likely starts for the Reds.

Liverpool take on Burnley tomorrow in a game with huge title implications – though, that’s the case for every remaining game. Manchester City don’t exactly drop points very often but the Reds need to make up ground on nine. It really might mean winning every remaining game.

But it’s not actually as simple as going all out against Burnley. Liverpool also need to worry about their Champions League fixture with Inter on Wednesday and player fitness is paramount. Jurgen Klopp needs to make sure he builds up that fitness on Sunday, then.

Predicted Liverpool team vs Burnley

Defence

Alisson Becker will start in goal, certainly. Trent Alexander-Arnold will be at right-back, too, given there’s not even obvious cover for him. We imagine Andy Robertson and Virgil van Dijk will both start, too.

One Liverpool change we do see coming is Ibrahima Konate stepping in for Joel Matip. It’s worth saving Matip for Inter, while the ‘exceptional talent’ of Konate should offer an even great physical presence against this Burnley side.

They’re a team that wants to get the ball into the mixer for their new 6ft 6 striker Wout Weghorst, after all. Van Dijk and Konate can counter that.

Midfield

Jordan Henderson will apparently return for Liverpool but we’re not sure he starts. Instead, we think Klopp will give him the final 30 and start him against Inter.

Fabinho is the only real certainty, though. Thiago feels likely but not certain – again, he’ll surely face Inter – and so it might be James Milner who offers experience and leadership here. Naby Keita seems very possible to step in for Curtis Jones, too, assuming Harvey Elliott isn’t quite ready to start.

Attack

We fully expect Mohamed Salah to return to the Liverpool team for this one. He got half an hour against Leicester City but giving him a start ahead of Inter seems sensible to us. It gives the £34m man a shot at finding his best form for the Champions League clash.

As for the other two places – we’re not too sure. We think Roberto Firmino might play here, with Diogo Jota saved for Inter given his good form. It seems a safe guess that Luis Diaz plays and Sadio Mané starts in Italy, too.
