Jurgen Klopp offered an update on Jordan Henderson ahead of Burnley vs Liverpool on Sunday. The Reds’ captain has been injured.
Jordan Henderson missed Liverpool beating Leicester City on Thursday, with the captain carrying a back problem. He’s actually one of the few remaining injury problems in the squad – virtually everyone else is back.
In fact, this is currently the deepest Liverpool squad we’ve likely ever seen. Henderson, though, is someone Jurgen Klopp will want back immediately.
Fortunately, it sounds as though that will be the case.
“Hendo definitely will be back,” Klopp told a press conference on Friday. “That was the plan before [Leicester] and that’s the plan now. If nothing else happens, he will play on Sunday.”
Jordan Henderson to return for Liverpool
The shortest, sweetest injury update we can ever remember happening. Henderson is the only injured player and he won’t miss another game. What a difference a year makes.
Because this time last year, of course, Liverpool were without their entire first-choice centre-back options. Henderson himself was about to go down for the season, while a myriad of others would face long spells out.
Right now, though, Liverpool have so many players that some can’t even make the matchday squad. Both Joe Gomez and Divock Origi were casualties of the squad depth against Leicester, according to Klopp.

And providing there aren’t any new problems, Henderson’s return will only exacerbate that ‘problem’. Someone else will need to drop out, presumably a midfielder.
Curtis Jones? Naby Keita? Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain? James Milner? None of them deserve to sit things out against Burnely but Liverpool will have too many options. It’s a wonderful situation to be in, of course, but we don’t envy Klopp with this decision.
Still, as the boss said in his press conference, you’d much rather have this problem than the opposite. Good luck with it, though.
