Tyler Morton says he’s already taking on advice from Jurgen Klopp on his physique. The Liverpool youngster is having a breakthrough campaign.

Tyler Morton wasn’t an obvious pick for the next Liverpool youngster to come through in the first-team setup. He’s exceeded all expectations this season, though, playing some big games for the club.

The 19-year-old now has starts in every competition for Liverpool – a massive statement of his quality. Some of those performances have been excellent, too, and we’re feeling pretty excited about his potential.

But there’s certainly room for improvement. The first thing you notice about Morton is how small he looks compared to more seasoned professionals – you can tell he’s a young player.

That’s something he wants to improve, however, and he promises that progress is on the way.

Tyler Morton continues to improve

“It doesn’t look like it but I have been going to the gym!” he told Sport Bible. “I’ve always worked on my physique and will continue to do so. It will take time.

“I know that because of how my body develops. He [Klopp] is definitely right. I understand it and he’s spoken to me about it. It’s what I want to work on.”

It sounds like Morton has the right head about this, then. Not that you’d expect anything less from a player Liverpool plainly trust to improve.

The next couple of seasons will be key and it’ll be interesting to see where Morton is at this time in a year. If he does show solid improvement with his physique, he may well earn himself a more prominent first-team role – even just slightly.

Because that really is all that’s missing. He’s a clever passer and a technically sound one, while his positioning continues to develop. Add in some strength and Liverpool should have a very tidy young midfielder to count on.
